Yesterday morning, as the Barclays Center prepared for weekend events--apparently Wrestlemania on Sunday rather than pro and college hoops tonight and tomorrow--it was easy to document what seemed to be five violations of city and arena truck/traffic rules and regulations, as noted on Atlantic Yards Watch.
"I did not call 311," wrote Peter Krashes. "There were 4 Barclays Center staff members standing outside the loading dock at the time these problems were occurring."
In other words, other people should be keeping track--but maybe that's not part of their incentive pay.
The seeming violations, as described on AYW, include:
1). Truck leaves loading dock and goes down residential Dean Street passed playground. [see photo above]Further down Dean
2). Truck stands on 6th Avenue between Dean and Pacific in no-standing zone for a long period. It was there when I got there and there when I left. It was idling when I arrived. Turned off engine soon afterward. Then turned it back on.
3). Workers load crane onto truck on 6th Avenue, closing a lane of traffic while they did so. [see photo at right]
4). Truck idles on the pad (video)
5). Performance related trucks are on the pad instead of the Navy Yard where they belong.
Later, as shown in the photo below, there was a Wrestlemania truck on Dean between Carlton and Vanderbilt avenues. The message about truck routes--avoiding residential streets--does not appear to be getting through.
